Dancing costumes of the Tang Dynasty
Dances popular during the dynasty can be classified into two types: “soft” or “urbane” dances of the Han ethnic group and “strong” or “martial” dances of the ethnic minority groups. Dancers wore costumes with long, loose sleeves when performing “soft” dances. They would be in hufu costumes with tight sleeves when performing “strong” or “martial” dances that were characterized by fast, powerful movements.
